SCOTTISH SUFFOLK AREA BRANCH NATIONAL SHOW SEE SUFFOLKS TAKES THE HATRICK AT FIFE SHOW

By Secretary Heather Pritchard

The Scottish Suffolk Area Branch ventured to Fife Show on Saturday 23rd May and staged their National Show 2026.  The event attracted huge response of 80 entries which went under the watchful eye of Judge Mr Graham Denby of Carnforth Suffolk flock.

Lifting the Supreme Championship ticket and the Middlemuir perpetual trophy was one of the breeds younger breeders, Neil Barclay (Jnr) of the Harestone flock with his gimmer, a daughter of Carony Cha-Ching and out of a Limestone Limousine bred mother. This outstanding Rhaeadr bred gimmer was purchased for young Neil as he wanted a Suffolk for his Christmas to show in the future. The winning entry was shown by Harestone’s Shepherd, Stuart Paterson, and she is a full ET sister to the Lanark Sale Champion in 2024.

The Barclay team also had extra reason to celebrate when their Champion entry as she went on to win the Sheep Interbreed Champion rosette and also to secure the Champion of Champions top award of Fife Show.

Taking the judges eye for the Reserve Supeme Championship rosette was the winning ram lamb entry shown by Stewart Lathangie of the Pyeston flock. The lamb is by Limestone King of Diamond who was the 40K private purchase last year along with Claycrop and Limestone retaining a third share. The mother of the lamb is a daughter of Sportsmans Masterplan and was sold at the 3 Nations in November for 6K as a gimmer. The grand-dam in this pedigree is ET sister to Pyeston Phoenix and Pyeston Real Deal who is sire of the current ‘Sire of the Year’.

Taking the Reserve Female position was the winning ewe entry from James Wallace of the Claycrop flock. This entry is by Burnview Bombay Sapphire and her mother, by Castleisle Cobra, is a homebred ewe who is maternal sister to the 7K Claycrop Cadillac sold to Birness and Pyeston.

Securing the Reserve Male rosette was John Gibb of the Cairnton flock with his 2nd prize lamb ram. This is a son of Callow Carbon who was purchased privately. The dam is out of a full sister to the 75K Cairnton Chaos ram.

The winning ewe lamb entry was shown by James Scott of Strathview. This is the first show outing for this lamb and she is a daughter of Strathview Striker who stood 6th at the Scottish National Show 2025 and sold for 2500gns at the Scottish Premier show and sale.  The mother of the winning ewe lamb, by Sportsmans 5 Star, was purchased from Birness at Thainstone Christmas Classic as a lamb and went on to have a successful show career during 2025 winning Champion of Champions at Alyth Show and Interbreed Champion at Kirriemuir Show.

Winning the red ticket in the aged ram class was Pyeston Pheonix shown by Stewart Lathangie. Sired by Limestone Marksman and his dam is a daughter of Castleisle Capaldi.

Lifting the 1st prize rosette in the shearling ram class was Strathbogie King Kong exhibited by Ali Jackson of the Topgun flock.  The yearling entry is sired by Rempstone Gambler and his mother is by Crewelands Kingpin.

The Area Branch would like to thank our Judge, Mr Graham Denby of the Carnforth flock taking the time to judge the Show and to all the sponsors who supported this tremendous event, namely JG Animal Health, Caisley Tags, Lawrie & Symington Ltd, United Auctions, Norvite Animal Nutrition, Showtime and the Suffolk Sheep Society Ltd.
