NextGen members shine at scorcher of Great Yorkshire Show 2025.
Date: 9th July 2025
Judge: J Soulsby, Williamsgill
Our very own Jane Soulsby, chair of Council, took to the ring at the Great Yorkshire Show 2025 at the helm as Judge. It was a perfect day with a bit of cloud cover to help handlers and sheep but that was to change as the morning went on and the temperature soared to stifling heights, as did the competitions in the ring as we worked our way through the schedule.
Topping the tree as Overall Champion was Oliver Watson a NextGen member whose Irtvale flock was founded with some initial purchases in 2025 and the first place in the aged ewe section a purchased ewe from the Sportsmans flock WWZ:23:01485 sired by Salopian Solid Gold catching both the Judge’s eye and the packed ringside from the outset.
The Reserve Overall Champion again coming from a new and NextGen member who joined the Society in 2023 having a great, Great Yorkshire show in the Suffolk ring! Aiden Mitchell, Grassknop flock taking the Reserve overall with his aged ewe. A 1,500gns investment from a Skipton sale consigned by Stephen Bolland (Wharfe) as part of his investment in the Suffolk breed LVX:23:04453. Further success in the Gimmer class, a first place for his home bred shearling ZTN:24:10424 by Strathbogie Stallone. Its mother stood fourth place at the Royal Highland show showing to all that he has a good eye for Suffolks!
Male Champion came for the first-place trimmed lamb class shown by RK Denby (Carnforth) who stated after the show was finished that he had waited 24 years for a show like this! A58:25:01189 came up trumps for the Denbys. Not only that they paired him up with stablemate A58:25 01174 to go on to take the GYS reserve interbreed pairs.
The lamb classes featured highly in the male competitions at the Great Yorkshire with the Judge tapping out her reserve, the first placed lamb in the untrimmed lamb class from Geoff Richmond (Sullom) FPT:25:01251
