BURNVIEW DISPERSAL – SATURDAY 18th November 2023

The Burnview Dispersal Sale exceeded all expectations on Saturday 18th November, when a large crowd of over 300 people attended Ballymena Auction Market, with a further 200 plus registered for online bidding via Marteye.  J.A. McClelland conducted the sale with Archie Hamilton from Lawrie & Symington Ltd, Lanark in charge on the rostrum. 

143 lots came under the hammer including flock ewes, gimmers, ewe lambs, recipient ewes carrying embryos and two stock rams. 26 lots found new homes in Europe with Portugal particularly strong with 25 more made their way to the Mainland and a further 30 to Eire.

Top price on the night was 15,000gns for their show gimmer sired by the 34,000gns Blessington Champion Mullinvale Magnum, she sold to Darragh McMenamin of Mullinvale.  Paul Delves of Bridgeview paid 8,200gns for Lot 185, the top priced ewe lamb, she is a daughter of 13,000gns Strathbogie Joel and from the famous 13:100 ewe family which has produced tup sales to 13,000gns and 14,000gns.

Next best in the ewe lamb section was Lot 110 sold to Society President Alistair Barkley’s Blackbrae flock for 5,500gns.  She is by the famous Cariness Liam out of a former Show ewe by Burnview Hitman II. 

Lot 43, a Lakeview Munro gimmer and out of a 4,800gns gimmer, sold to James Wilkinson for 7,000gns.

Danny & Darren McKay of Rowandale paid 5,200gns for Lot 74, a full sister of the 15,000gns gimmer, she sold in lamb to Kells T Rex carrying twins. She is out of one of the flocks top breeding ewes T86:19:1315 who is full sister to 10,000gns Burnview Bombay Sapphire.   Lot 20, by 1369, a gimmer this time by Warrior sold to James Ludgate, Scotsgrove, Oxfordshire.  Jimmy Screene of Windfield in Co. Galway paid 4,800gns for Lot 65 a Strathbogie Joel gimmer out of a Burnview Hitman II sired ewe.  She sold in lamb to the 4,500gns Redbrae Majestic.  Windifeld also paid 5,000gns for Lot 128, a ewe lamb by Mullinvale Assassin also out of 1369.

Top priced flock ewe was Lot 82 fetching 4,800gns for a one crop ewe by Strathbogie Joel also from 1315 she is in lamb to Middlemuir Monarch, carrying a single she sold to Andrew Hamill, Dunmurry, Belfast.

Lot 54, a gimmer by Bridgeview Boots in lamb to T Rex carrying a single, sold for 4,200gns to Dr. S.P. Fitzgerald, Crumlin whilst Ian Donald of Donbraid and P & R Machray of Aberdeen each paid 4,000gns for a Warrior gimmer and a Cairness Liam sired ewe lamb respectively.

Middlemuir Monarch was the top priced stock ram at 5,000gns selling to James Young, Muirton, Aberdeen.

Recipient ewes carrying embryos were in great demand with the best selling to W.M. Hutchinson of Howgillfoot for 3,000gns for one carrying a single embryo from the 15,000gns gimmer, Lot 10.
