Knockem Ram Lamb takes top price 2,900gns

Despite Covid-19 challenges the Suffolk Sheep Society annual North of England Branch sale at Harrison and Hetherington, Carlisle achieved an excellent 73% clearance for all livestock with Ram Lambs achieving an average of £683.

Berwickshire breeders Mr and Mrs B Nicolson topped the sale with their Strathbogie Strongbow sired ram out of a Lakeview Bob sired Knockem dam, being knocked down to Ashley Bothwell of the Smithston Flock, Ayr for 2,900gns. Click here to view pedigree.

Messrs Shaw from Kelso paid 2,200gns for a Logiedurno Sonny Bill ram from the Sitlow pen of S J Buckley, Derbyshire. The same pen got 2,000gns for another ram lamb from the same sire, this time out of a Sitlow Concept sired ewe. This one went to Messrs Winn of Whixley, North Yorkshire. With five sheep all sold for 900gns or above, Sitlow had an very productive day with the top pen average of 1,560gns.

Stewart Lathangie’s Pyeston flock got 1,800gns for his two top prices. Lot 178 went to M T Bulmer’s Salton flock in North Yorkshire and Lot 180 to John Nutter’s Aighton Flock in Clitheroe, Lancashire.

Commercial customers were also dominant at the sale with some of the top price rams being sold to local and regional buyers giving them a healthy return in tight times.
