Following recent communication with ABP, the Society has become aware that there is an opportunity to supply stock rams to Alpha Lamb Scheme producers supplying ABP Yetminster in Dorset. Yetminster is the base for ABP's UK lamb slaughtering for lambs and ewes sourced throughout England and Wales using local field agents and collection centres. The AlphaRam Board agree Ram Breeders standards, take guidance from industry-leading mentors and maintain Breeder qualification for the scheme. TheAlpha Rams Breeders Criteria* is:
• All rams should be Signet or Sil recorded
• All rams should be backfat scanned as lambs and 90% weighed at 8 weeks old
• All stock rams and some ram lambs if applicable should be CT scanned
• All rams sold must have been bred and reared on a grass / forage based system only
• All rams offered for sale must be either from an MV accredited flock or be tested clear of MV at time of sale
• FEC counts or IGA should be carried out, particularly for maternal breeds
• All stock rams for maternal breeds should be CT scanned
• No rams should be trimmed, dressed or coloured for sale
