Scottish Smallholder and Grower Festival

By Suffolk Sheep Society 16th February, 2012

Forfar Market on Sunday 30th September 2012.

A range of classes have been organised.  The Schedule includes five sections,

·British Hill and Upland

·Northern Short-tailed

·British Lowland

·British Longwool

·Continental

each with six classes,

·Ewe lamb

·Ram lamb

·Gimmer or ewe any age

·Ram any age

·Pair (one male, one female)

·Best exhibit in the section

plus a Champion and Reserve Champion for both pairs and individual. Tim Tyne, author of “The Sheep Book for Smallholders”, will be judging the two Championships

In the event of any breed in a section class having more than five representatives from two or more exhibitors, we will convene a separate class for that breed.

In addition, we are running three “Wool on the Hoof” classes, three “Pair of Butcher’s Lambs” classes, a “Best Horns” class, a best “Veteran Ewe” class and a special class for the “Best Sheep Pen”, which will be open to all exhibitors.

Please note that for organisational reasons, we are unable to run classes for MV accredited sheep.

The Rare Breed Survival Trust is supporting the Festival, which will be the only Scottish qualifier for the Trust’s “Young Shepherd of the Year 2013” competition.

We hope that we have put together an event that will prove attractive to sheep keepers in Scotland and that there will be a good turnout of livestock.

The full Schedule and entry forms will be available to download from the Festival’s website by the end of March at www.scottishsmallholdershow.co.uk.
